Dr. Michael Garbe, Psychodynamic Therapist and Spiritual Counselor

Dr. Michael Garbe is a licensed clinical social worker, specializing in working with individuals who would like to have spirituality integrated into their therapeutic process. He has over a decade of experience working in the fields of trauma, co-dependence, and substance abuse, in the public and private sector. He was a program coordinator of a large substance abuse program in NYC, overseeing programming, supervising clinicians, and providing direct service. He left the public sector to pursue a doctorate, at Rutgers University, focusing on trauma and spirituality. He is a professor of social work, teaching at institutions such as NYU, Rutgers University, and Ramapo College. He currently provides therapy, through the work on this site, to individuals, couples, and families seeking a more integrated therapeutic approach.

Dr. Garbe is transparent regarding his own healing process, and his therapeutic techniques are based in, and from, direct experience. He is psychodynamically, and attachment theory, oriented. His techniques included the latest trauma-informed approaches, recognizing that healing is a mind-body process. Through his exploration, and practice, of eastern spiritual philosophies, Dr. Garbe experienced profound transformational change. He believes that everyone has the capacity to connect to this potential, and he has developed techniques combining the latest trauma-informed research, with ancient spiritual wisdom, to assist clients in doing so.
